Discuss how we should change the ocean routes, what should be added, taken away, etc.
Keep in mind this is not the thread to discuss cities like Evergrande, Pacifilog, etc.

A few Islands and caves for post game stuff. I say the rock barriers are gone. Ambitious yes, but it will give you a freedom feeling once you get surf. Also a lot more diving possibilities

Also a lot more diving possibilities We can get rid of the rock barriers, have the routes be much wider, and then have deep watter tht shows "this water is far too deep for Pokemon based travel" when you try to surf on it.

Nah man, I mean like full open waters. I mean in the originals when you get to open water you only have to go to three cities and one cave. Imagine having a bunch of small islands that you can just happen to come across where an NPC gives you a Blazikenite XY that you can give to your Blaziken and Speedboost through the E4

It would be best to stick to predetermined routes. I like the idea of getting rid of the rock barriers with there still being a barrier. It would also make the water routes harder to traverse.

I think that the route to the right of slateport should be filled in with more and larger Islands as well as the sandy area off mossdeep, possibly on a tidal system which reflects extended shoal cave. If possible, without making too much of a splash, it would be cool to have an area effected erratic wind patterns, causing large scale freezing, giving hoenn a Ice area, as everything gen has had (even though tropics)

In the /vp/ thread a while back I posted what could be one possibility of an expanded Hoenn (hastily made in paint), and I believe it would be relevant to the discussion here (I really wish there was a Hoenn map alteration General thread). Now it goes a little out-of-bounds to this thread by touching on Dewford and Pacifidlog as well as the inland areas, but it fits here because of how it utilized mostly water routes in the Southeast. One of the untapped parts of Hoenn's potential was the large amount of unused islands in the southern seas. I propose that, since we're going to need areas to hold postgame events to hold foreign legendaries, we use those unused islands as places to hold those things. However, instead of an open ocean as some others here suggest, I propose a sort of "Island-Hopping" experience. The reason why is so that we can eliminate the complaint against the originals that the water routes were too tedious and too long. In my example here, the bite-sized water routes at the bottom offer a refreshing archipelago which would hold various foreign pokemon to be obtained only after the Elite Four, while offering something akin to Sinnoh's northern island, as the area surrounds the battle frontier with much more interesting material than just unused islands. Another big benefit is that it leaves the majority of the original Hoenn water routes untouched, with only 2/3 connections to post-game areas through the standard water routes (the exception being Island #5, which also allows a shortcut from Sootopolis to route 131 after the game has been beaten. With the original routes untouched, the rest of you would be freer to manipulate the original ocean as you see fit, without worrying about how to cram new locations into it. Lastly, I would support this path to an expanded Hoenn because it does not add much unnecessary content. Most of the cities added are pragmatic or easily could become pragmatic. For example, that Trading Port below Pacifidlog can become the place to buy the rare items like Life Orbs, Salac Berries, or whatever. Perhaps a minigame where you invest in a trading expedition that brings in hauls of rare items that were previously unavailable. Commentary is much appreciated. Do you think this is a good way to utilize the space in Hoenn's Ocean? Or is it too linear/barebones?
